How to add LXI to Your Antivirus Trusted List

If you’ve read our article about how to fix the app2.exe bad image error, you’re aware of the fact that the ongoing battle between software companies and hackers sometimes has unintended consequences. One of the critical lines of defense against “black hat” hackers is the “white hat” guys who work for the antivirus  companies. Every PC today needs a good antivirus program. But just as the Windows update sometimes causes problems, antivirus software sometimes gets too zealous and starts quarantining harmless programs. When this happens, it may interfere with, or even disable legitimate applications, including LXI. Fortunately, there’s a simple fix.

How Antivirus Software Works

Antivirus software works by scanning installed files and applications and comparing them against known behaviors of malware. This is known as “heuristic checking”. It’s a powerful analytical tool that enables AV software to flag and identify new viruses based on what they’re trying to do on your PC.

Unfortunately, it’s not a perfect system. Sometimes a legitimate application needs to do things that look a little bit like malware. LXi is a complete design and production program. When the design phase is complete, it opens the Cut-Plot or Print and Cut module, and that module then sends data to a connected device. This process can make an AV program nervous and lead it to flag your design app as malware.   When this happens, your software shuts down through  no fault of its own. If you use MacAfee, Norton, Kaspersky, AVG, or Symantec, this may be happening to to your LXI license.

How do you know if you have an AV problem?

  • If your workflow is interrupted when LXI tries to open production manager, you might have an AV problem.
  • If your LXi application won’t launch, you might have an AV problem.
  • If your .app2.exe file or SAIcloud.dll files go missing, you might have an AV problem.
  • If your installed LXi or Flexi software disappears from your desktop entirely, you might have an AV problem.

How to fix your AV problem.

Fortunately there’s an easy fix. You can modify your antivirus and simply tell it to stop treating your design software as a threat. This is done by adding the application to the ‘Trusted’ List in your AV settings. Generally, it takes less than ten minutes. Each application has a slightly different process. For your convenience, we’ve gathered the solutions for the five AV programs most popular with LXI and FlexiSign users. Look below for your application and follow the link to fix your AV problem.

  • MacAfee: In McAfee, you have to create an exclusion. To do this, you click Start, Programs, McAfee, VirusScan Console. Then Right-click “On-Access Scanner” and select Properties. Click All Processes, Detection, Exclusions. This is how you identify the trusted programs. You can exclude files or directories. The best solution is to exclude the entire directory. In this case, excluding is a good thing. You’re telling it to exclude LXI from the list of suspected apps.
For LXi, the correct directory should be C:>Program Files(x86)>SignWarehouse>LXI 12.
For Flexi, exclude the Program Files(x86)>SAI>SAI Production Suite Cloud directory.
Click here for detailed instructions from McAfee’s support site.
  • Kaspersky: Kaspersky’s process is similar. Open the Settings window in Kaspersky Total Security. In the Settings view, go to the “Additional” section and select “Threats and exclusions” in the right frame. In the Threats and exclusions window, click the “Specify Trusted Applications” link. Then identify the LXI or Flexi directory to mark it as a trusted application. Click here for detailed instructions from Kaspersky’s support site.
  • Norton: Norton’s process is pretty simple. In the Norton main window, click Settings. In the Settings window, under Detailed Settings, click Firewall. On the Program Control tab, select the program you want to exclude or mark as trusted. In the Access drop-down list for the program entry, click Allow. Then, click Apply. Here are the detailed instructions.
  • AVG Internet Security: The process for adding LXI or Flexi to the AVG firewall’s list of trusted applications is similar and takes about ten steps. Click here for detailed instructions.
  • Symantec: In Symantec, you need to create an “Application Exception”. It’s a bit more involved than the others, but you can create an exception for your LXi or Flexi installed folder. Click here for detailed instructions from Symantec’s support center.

You can accomplish the same thing by excluding a specific file, such as SAIcloud.dll, but then you have to guess what file the AV’s algorithm is going to misidentify next. So it’s always better to identify  the entire folder. Remember, if you’ve installed LXi on more than one occasion, you may have more than one folder or directory on your hard drive. Make sure you select the active one, or just add them all.  If you go through these steps and continue to have issues, by all means contact SIGNWarehouse Tech Support and we’ll help you sort it out.

Download Discontinued LXi Software

In our contemporary world, today’s technology becomes outdated and eventually obsolete. Betamax is replaced by VHS, which is replaced by DVDs, then Blu-Ray, then streaming, etc.

In the PC world, we’ve gone from Windows 98 to XP, 7, Vista, 8, 8.1 and now Windows 10. Along the path of progress, related devices and software must be updated, upgraded, or discarded. Remember the Palm Pilot? And Microsoft introduced XP way back in 2001!

Sign making software is no exception. As the digital infrastructure gets upgraded support for old software, such as LXi 8.5, just goes away. It’s time to move on. Now’s the time to upgrade your old LXi software and keep your business moving forward.

Every day, more and more users are enjoying the convenience and online features of Vinyl Express LXi 12. However, if your version of LXi is a predecessor to version 12 or Cloud, we still want to help by providing free LXi downloads to replace missing or deleted software. While we no longer have access to some of the earliest programs, customers may still download any of the following versions.

Simply download the zip file and extract the folder. You can do this by simply right-clicking on the folder, and select Extract All. After the files have been extracted, open the folder, and run the CD_Start.exe. From here you will be able to install the software.

LXI 8.5: End of Life – No Downloads Available

Due to a loss of manufacturer support for the soft key licenses issued during this era, LXi 8.5 is at an “end of life” phase. Soft key licenses (those that run without the use of a dongle or hard key) are failing due to unsupported operating systems for which they were designed. We have been assisting customers on a case by case basis as they contact us, but we would rather offer solutions before the problem arises. Your old 8.5 software has either stopped working or soon will stop working. Now is the time to upgrade! Customers still using LXi 8.5 should contact us and request a quote for upgrading to LXi 12.

Download LXi 10

LXi 10 (introduced in 2010) is compatible with Windows XP (3), Vista, and Windows 7. Licensing will require a hardware key (dongle) along with a user id and password.

Download LXi 10.5

LXi 10.5 (introduced in 2010) is compatible with Windows XP (3), Vista, and Windows 7. Licensing will require a hardware key (dongle) along with a user id and password.

Forever Laser Dark

Forever Laser Dark is a no-weed solution for heat transfer applications on light, dark and colored apparel or materials with textile surfaces. The 2-Paper-System is recommended for use with the OKI WT and iColor laser printers for decorating dark garments with white toner.  Proper use produces brilliant color and consistent results.

The A-Foil sheet is the transfer media on which you print your image. It holds the toner extremely well, but does not leave any residues in the copier or any background on the garment. No more guessing where the transfer is applied! The transparent foil gives precise placement on your garment. Now you can precisely place transfers onto your t-shirts and textiles. Use with Forever Laser Dark Lo-Temp B Paper to adhere the printed image to apparel.

The Lo-Temp B Paper adds a layer of opaque white adhesive to the printed toner on the A Foil and bonds it to the fabric.  The special coating of the Lo-Temp B Paper develops its adhesive power starting at 212°F (100°C), allowing a variety of different materials or surfaces to be transfer printed. This paper brings the additional opacity, which is needed for vibrant colors by transfer printing on dark garments. The white opaque coating on the sheet only sticks to the toner on the A-Foil.

Unboxing (1:51)

Remove the stand parts from the smaller of two boxes. Use setup guide (found in the larger box) to confirm receipt of all parts and hardware. Assemble stand by attaching legs to cross bar, and add stabilizer. Attach the book holder and waste fluid tank holder. Place printer on stand and secure with provided bolts. Place waste fluid tank inside holder. Remove all safety packing.

Software Install (3:47)

The PrismJET VJ-54 can be controlled through Flexi or LXi software. We are demonstrating setting up the printer to respond to LXi Rip version 12. So, the appearance of certain icons and graphics may be different than the version of software you are using. However, the principles and basic process should be the same.

Both LXi and Flexi are cloud-based software and must be downloaded from www.saicloud.com. Create your SAi cloud account using the activation  code received when purchasing your software. Once the account is created, activate and download your software. You will have to accept the license agreement. Use the activation code again to license your software.

Registration (1:46)

Go to www.mutoh.com. Under the menu category titled “Support”; click “Printer Registration”; and then, click “Register” to create an account. Once every field is completed, click “Registration”. Follow the prompts and click to “Agree” with terms. Then, click “Registration” once again. Once registration is complete, you should receive an email which includes your printer’s activation code.

Activation (2:03)

Have cleaning and ink cartridges on-hand. Plug the power cable into the wall and printer. Then, power-on the VJ-54. Use the control panel arrows to enter the activation code (received via email). Follow the control panel prompts to start the cleaning and ink charge. After inking the printer, add media.

Communication (2:48)

Use the provided Ethernet cable to connect the computer to printer. Set the IP Address and Subnet Mask on the printer, computer, and within the software. The IP Address should match on the printer and within the software, but the computer’s IP Address should be different by one digit. Test the communication within the software.

Control Panel (2:36)

Get familiar with basic control panel functions such as nozzle check (hold LEFT arrow); basic cleaning (hold RIGHT arrow); advance media forward (hold DOWN arrow); draw media back (hold UP arrow); cut media (hold ENTER); IP Address (Set 23); Pallet (Test Print), and Cleanings (Menu 3)

Profiles and First Print (3:20)

Download profiles from SignWarehouse’s Technical Site. Extract the files from the zipped folder onto the computer’s desktop or into a designated folder. Change the default job properties in Production Manager by clicking the Color Management tab. Then, add all newly downloaded output profiles. For the first print, choose a profile that corresponds with the media being used. Open the SAi Color Tester file within the program folder, and send the first print job.

The image separation differs depending on whether you’re going to apply it on a dark or light garment. And it allows for a wide area of overlap in order to hide the tiles for a seamless transfer. And it does all of that in five mouse clicks. That’s the general overview. Here’s a step by step summary of the process.

  • Download the Forever IC-Split Software.
  • Open IC-Split and browse to an image file. Double-click on the file to add it to the IC-Split workspace. The application supports .png and .tiff files.
  • Determine the desired transfer size (ie. 11 x 17). Rotate the image in the preview window to maximize the tile sizes and make optimal use of the work space.
  • Use the tile border sliders to preview sizes of tiles. Because each page size is displayed as you slide the borders, you can make sure each tile fits on a sheet of transfer paper. The borders overlap. The larger the overlap area, the less visible the seam will be.
  • Click the Split button. A pop-up window asks if the image will be applied to a light or dark surface (Fig 1). This determines where IC-Split places the seams.
  • If preview looks okay, save as. If not, click revert, adjust the sliders and try again. Some images are easier to split than others.
  • Save as a multiple page PDF or a pair of png files. If you choose the png, IC-Split creates two versions of the file labeled L and R (left and right). PDF is simpler because you only have to import one file into TransferRIP, but the .PNG option has an advantage.
  • If you’re working with a complex image, it’s a good idea to open the files in Photoshop or some other graphic design application and position them to make sure the seams match. This is the advantage of the .PNG option. You can manipulate the tiles separately and do a ‘soft proof’ to verify alignment before committing to A Foil.
  • If your tiles align properly, you’re good to go. Open TransferRIP, add the PDF or .PNG files, and process them as you would normally. There are a few other wrinkles in the application process.

Here’s how to get started printing and contour-cutting with your new 24″ printer

Video 1- Intro (:59)

This video series focuses on setup of your new PrismJET VJ-24 Printer and should be used in tandem with maintenance videos found on SignWarehouse’s technical site. There are a number of variables that could affect the setup process. Call SignWareouse at 800-966-1783 for additional technical assistance.

Video 2- Software Download (4:50)

The PrismJET VJ-24 can be controlled through Flexi or LXi software.

Video 3-  Registration (1:48)

Go to www.mutoh.com. Under the menu category titled “Support”; click “Printer Registration”; and then, click “Register” to create an account. Once every field is completed, click “Registration”. Follow the prompts and click to “Agree” with terms and click “Registration” once again. Once registration is complete, you should receive an email which includes your printer’s activation code.

Video 4- Printer Setup (3:34)

You will find a startup guide inside the box with the printer. Use the guide for instructions in un-boxing the printer, taking inventory of parts, and assembling the stand. Use two or more people to place the printer on the assembled stand (Do not try lifting the printer alone). Follow the startup guide closely, and pay especially close attention to instructions concerning the voltage selector.

Video 5- ValueJet Finder (2:50)

Use the accessory CD to install ValueJet Finder. Be sure to choose ValueJET628 as your reference model. Click through the various prompts that advance the setup and eventually search for and set an IP address. Write down the IP address in case you need it later.

Video 6- Virtual Status Monitor (3:45)

Follow the Startup Wizard to install the printer driver. Specify the printer, confirm setup, and advance through prompts until you reach the VSM installation. Choose Automatic Proxy when configuring the VSM settings. You will then be directed to login to ValueJET Club to register the printer with the VSM. Finally, you will be prompted to activate the VSM.

Video 7- Initial Ink Charge (3:15)

Have cleaning and ink cartridges nearby. Make sure the waste ink tank is empty. Install cleaning cartridges to flush out the system. Empty the waste ink tank once the cleaning fluid is discharged. Lightly shake and install ink cartridges. Wait until notified that the ink charge is complete before setting the media.

Video 8- Nozzle Check and Printer Setup in LXi (2:24)

Continue to advance through the startup wizard to print a nozzle check. When finished, examine whether the nozzle check is evenly bold across the width of the print without missing or broken lines that would suggest clogged or misdirected nozzles. Continue through the Startup Wizard if the nozzle check looks good. If there are signs of clogged nozzles, you will need to perform another cleaning. If the nozzles check doesn’t appear clogged, but does seem out of focus or incorrect, this may be corrected with a media feed adjustment. After completing the adjustment, close the startup wizard and open LXi Rip. Choose VJ-24 as the color printer you wish to add. Submit the IP address that you wrote down earlier (Video 5).

Video 9- Profile Installation and First Print (2:15)

Download the VJ-24 Color Profiles from Our PrismJET download page. Then add and apply the profiles in the Color Management section of LXi Rip. After applying the profiles, send a test print by clicking “Add a Job”. Look for the SAi_Color_Tester file found in the “Samples” folder within the SignWarehouse program folder. Click “Send”.

Re-installing LXi Cloud

$
0
0

Let’s clear up some misconceptions about Vinyl Express LXi Cloud and LXI 12. At one end of the spectrum, we have users who fear they can never switch computers because they have already downloaded their one and only copy of LXi. At the other end, some users think they can download the software multiple times onto an infinite number of computers. After all, if the software doesn’t require a security hardware key, what’s stopping users from downloading multiple copies? This article will address licensing and explain what to do if you ever need to reinstall to the same or new computer.

Part 1: License Removal

The standard purchase of Vinyl Express LXi Cloud or LXi 12 includes one license. Prior to LXi Cloud, previous versions prohibited simultaneous usage on multiple computers by requiring that a security hardware key (or dongle) be plugged into the computer while using the program. In the same manner, when Cloud users try to download to a second computer, they are prompted that the software has already been licensed to the first computer and is therefore unavailable for download.

LXi Cloud’s license registration prevents illegal copies and unauthorized usage, but what about a legitimate need to reinstall? Maybe our computer crashed; maybe it caught a virus and we had to reformat; maybe we just want to upgrade to a new computer. Isn’t there a way to transfer (not copy) the license from one computer to the next? Of course there is! The key is you must remove your current license before you can license a new (or even the same) computer. There are a few different ways to go about this depending on your situation.

A. “My software is still working, but I want to transfer it to a different computer.”

The license will be released as part of the uninstall process as long as the computer is connected to the internet when you do. Still, you may want to remove the license manually just to be certain. Here’s how.

1. Click “Start” in Windows and go to “All Programs.”
2. Find the LXi Cloud folder and open the “License Manager.”
3. Select “Remove License from This Computer.”
That’s how easy license removal can be. Unfortunately, we don’t always have the option of removeing the license before unexpected computer failure. In those cases, users of Vinyl Express LXi Cloud will need to take other measures.

B. “I no longer have my software due to crash or reformat, and I’m in a hurry to reinstall (for the first time).”

SAi, the software manufacturer, typically oversees re-licensing to prevent abuse. However, every user has the ability to release his/her license at least once for reinstallation. Follow these steps.

1. Login to www.saicloud.com using the email and password you submitted when originally setting up your account.
2. Click on the name of your software. If you have more than one program on your account, choose the one you wish to reinstall.
3. Click “License Removed.”
4. If you don’t have a removal code, click “No Removal Code.”
5. Finally, click “Remove License.”
You may get a confirmation that your license was successfully removed, or you may simply be redirected to your account’s home page. As long as you didn’t get a notification of too many removals, you were successful. If you do get a notice that there have been too many removals, you are left with one final option.

C. “I need the manufacturer to release my license.”

Don’t be surprised if you got the “too many times” notification when trying to remove the license yourself. This may have been caused by multiple attempts during your initial download. There is no need to fear. We simply need to contact the manufacturer to release the license.

• Submit your request for LXi Cloud license release by calling SignWarehouse Technical Support at 1-800-966-1783 or email support@signwarehouse.com.
We will forward your request to SAi. The request can take anywhere from 20-minutes to a few hours depending on the manufacturer’s workload. We will promptly contact you as soon as we receive confirmation that the license was successfully released.

Part 2: Download and Re-install

Once you have successfully removed your license, you can download the software from your Cloud account just like you did during the initial installation.

1. Login to your SAi account on the computer to which you wish to download.-click
2. Click “Download License.” Make sure to save it to the desktop or somewhere you can easily find it later.
3. Click “Download Now” to retrieve the LXi program.
(Time-saving tip: If you still have the SAI Installer folder on your desktop from the original
installation, you can just open that folder, find the AutoRun.exe file and double-click that to       quick-start the process. )
4. If you’re having trouble downloading the installer, just click here to download the zipped installation file. Extract it, open the mail folder and right-click on the Autorun.exe file. From the fly-out menu, select Run as Administrator, and launch the installer. This method bypasses some issues with internet connectivity that can interfere with downloading the installer from the SAI server.
5. A popup at the bottom of your screen will give you the options to run or save the download. Click “Run” to begin the installation.

Fig 1: Rename the folder to prevent over-writing the installed program

Note! Do Not Overwrite the existing installation.  Reinstall LXi in a new folder so that your old files and preferences are saved.  This will also help in any future troubleshooting.  When the LXI Choose Destination Location window appears, click the Browse button at the bottom of the window next to the “Destination Folder Location” text. Then, in the Choose Folder window, type in a new folder name;  i.e. LXI12_NEW (Fig 1)

5. After the program has been installed, find the LXi Cloud program and open the License Manager.
6. Select the option, “Import a License File.”
7. In that window, browse to the location where you saved the license earlier. Select the license and click “Open.”
8. Once complete, click “Finish” in the License Manager.
9. Now go back to the LXi Cloud program and open the Install Manager. Select “Install to Desktop” and “Clear Application’s Previous Preferences.” Click “OK.”
10. Follow the prompts to complete the installation on the new computer.

You should see new icons (LXi 12 and Production Manager 12) on your computer’s desktop once complete.

As you can see, reinstalling VE LXi Cloud is a bit more involved than the simple click of a button. While the software is not intended to be copied onto multiple computers, we certainly want you to be able to access your software whenever you want. By following the steps outlined in this article, you should be back in the business of designing and cutting in no time.

Oki Pro 8432WT Black Toner Setup

$
0
0

Good news, Oki owners! There is now a black toner option for the Oki Pro8432WT. You can now instantly convert your printer from CMYW to CMYK as needed. The addition of true black toner fully delivers on the promise of versatility that makes laser transfer printing so attractive. With the CMYK option, you have professional quality output for printing your internal office documents, presentations, flyers and such. And your one-step laser transfers on white apparel will have better saturation and tonal range for crisper, more vibrant-looking graphics. Since you can switch back to CMYW in seconds, you retain the ability to decorate dark garments with single-pass white toner printing.

If you already have an Oki Pro 8432WT and would like to take advantage of black & white swapping, you might think that all you need to do is purchase the new toner cartridge and pop it in. You’re mostly right. There are a couple of changes required to driver, profiles and settings. Here’s what you need to know for successful Oki Pro 8432WT Black toner setup.

Step 1: Download New Driver & ICC Profile

Before you install the Black toner and drum set, you’ll need to download the updated driver and ICC Profile that supports CMYK printing with your 8432WT. You can click here to download the files or surf to https://www.oki.com/printing/services-and-solutions/applications/white-toner-printing/download/

When you land at that web page, you’ll be prompted to enter your printer’s serial number. Here’s how to find it.

  1. Press the down arrow on the printer to access the Menu.
  2. Scroll down to highlight Configuration and press enter.
  3. Scroll down to highlight System. Press Enter.
  4. Serial Number is highlighted. Press enter to display the printer’s serial number.

Step 2: Install New Driver & Profile

Enter your printer’s serial number online and download the new driver and ICC profile. Once you’ve downloaded the files, you can browse to that location in Windows explorer and double-click on them to launch the installation program. The installation program will prompt you to Search for the installed printer driver. Clicking the Search button should populate the printer to the window (Fig1) . If the Search button fails to locate the printer, you will need to change your port setting from Ethernet to USB.
Repeat the process with the new ICC profile. Double click to launch the installer and select the OKI Pro 8432WT. Then click ‘Yes’ to install the new CMYK profile.

Repeat the process with the new ICC profile. Double click to launch the CMYK profile you downloaded. The installer will search for and display the OKI PRO 8432WT. Select it and click ‘Yes’ to send the new profile to the Oki printer driver. (Fig 2).

Step 3: Install Black toner & drum cartridge

Installing the Black toner and drum cartridge is fairly simple. Open the drum cartridge box first.  Remove the protective film from the drum cartridge. Then open the toner cartridge box, remove the adhesive cover from the bottom of the toner cartridge and slide it into place atop the drum cartridge. NOTE: if you have trouble seating the toner cartridge, don’t panic. It may not click easily into place. A little effort may be required. Move the blue lever forward to lock the toner cartridge into place.  Open the printer, remove the White toner and drum cartridge, and lower the black toner and drum cartridge into the same slot.  Close the printer. If the printer displays a toner error, open it and push the blue “Lock” lever a little farther forward to fully seat the new cartridges.

Step 4: Update Print Driver Color Settings

Now that you have the new Black toner and drum cartridges mated and installed in your printer, you’re almost ready to start printing with the CMYK option. Before you send your first CMYK print job, you’ll need to make a few adjustments to the driver settings. This can be done in the Printers and Scanners window beforehand or during your first print. Here’s how to set it up before you begin printing.

Open the Printers and Scanners or Devices and Printers window. In Windows 10, you can find this by typing printers in the Search window at the lower left corner of your task bar. Right-click on the OkiPro 8432WT and click “Manage Printer”. Click Printer Preferences.  Then select the Color Tab and click “Options”. This will launch the Color Print Details window.

Click Output Profile in the Printer Output Profile window. From the drop-down menu, select Printer 2 (see below). In this setting Black is generated by Black toner instead of composite color.

Click the CMYK Link Profile box at the bottom of the Color Printer Details window. Click the arrow to display the drop-down menu. Then select CMYK Link 1 and click OK (FIG 4 at right). You’re all set. Now you can send jobs to the OKI Pro 8432WT in CMYW or CMYK mode simply by opening the printer and swapping the White toner & drum cartridge for Black and back as needed. By the way, all of the instructions for steps 2 through 5 are included in the paperwork shipped with your toner cartridge. If you have any questions, refer to the Black Consumables Setup Guide.

That’s it for Oki Pro 8432WT Black toner setup. Depending on your broadband speed, the entire process should take about 15 minutes. Download the driver and profile, switch to USB, and install them. Open the cartridges, marry them and lock them into place in the back slot in your printer. Update the Color options printer settings and you’re good to go. You’ll notice a definite difference in the contrast and tonal range of your prints on white media and transfers on white apparel. For decorating dark, just pull the black toner & drum cartridge out, drop the White toner and drum set into in the same slot and print away. If you haven’t ordered your Black toner and drum cartridge bundle, you can do that now with the click of a mouse.
